LASEF Rulebook
Introduction
This rulebook is the official and comprehensive set of rules, policies, and procedures governing all League play for the LASEF In-Person and Online League, run by LASEF staff. It brings general competition rules, game-specific rules, and player conduct expectations together into a single authoritative document. This is a living document and is updated periodically — see the Change Log at the end of this rulebook for the most recent revisions. Any LASEF Partner League Rule Books will be listed on this page to follow.
1. League Overview
The LASEF In-Person and Online League is owned and operated by the Louisiana Scholastic Esports Federation (LASEF).
1.1 League Operator
1.2 League Platform
The League is hosted on Challonge, managed by LASEF. Partner Leagues participating under this rulebook may use their own platforms to run competitions, in which case registration, scheduling, match communication, and score reporting will follow that partner's platform instead. Unless otherwise noted, the general flow is: register, check in, get matched, play, report.
1.3 League Schedule
LASEF operates on a Fall and Spring season structure, along with a Summer Series. Fall Season culminates in the Fall Championships, hosted at Stomp in the Swamp. Spring Season culminates in the LASEF Louisiana Championship. Summer Series runs during the offseason as an additional competition opportunity. Exact dates and schedules for each season are posted on the LASEF website calendar and announced through LASEF news. Regional Leagues: LASEF Regional Leagues are at their own discretion to determine their individual schedules. Regional schedules will be posted on the LASEF schedules page as information is submitted by each region.
1.4 League Eligibility
The League is open to all students who meet the grade criteria for each game competition (see Section 4: Game Rules). Players may participate through a school, community center, library, homeschool group, or as part of a non-affiliated team — students do not need to be affiliated with a school to compete. For team-based games, teams may be formed from players at the same school, the same community organization, or from any group of eligible players who wish to compete together as a non-affiliated team (e.g. three students who want to form a Rocket League team independent of any school or organization). Individual players may also compete solo where the game format allows. For LASEF, Elementary School (ES) is grades K–5, Middle School (MS) is grades 6–8, and High School (HS) is grades 9–12. Students in younger grade bands may, at their coach's discretion, register in a higher grade band instead of their own — but may not participate in both.
1.4.1 Students under 13
1.4.1 Students Under 13 Students under 13 need parent or guardian permission to sign up and play on LASEF platforms. Each tournament will state this requirement at registration.
1.4.2 Game Titles
LASEF's official competition game titles are determined based on popularity and participation.New games featured by community or coach request will initially run as casual tournaments. If a casual tournament demonstrates a high level of participation, the LASEF Advisory Board may approve it for upgrade to competition play starting the following season.
1.5 Definition of Terms

2. League Format
LASEF competition follows two seasonal pathways — Fall and Spring — each with multiple routes for teams and players to qualify for LASEF's championship events.
2.1 Fall Season
Teams and players compete throughout the USAEL Open Fall season. The top 4 Louisiana teams/players in each competition advance to Stomp in the Swamp for the LASEF LACUE Championship. Teams and players may also qualify by competing in LASEF Challonge tournaments that are designated as offering entry into Stomp in the Swamp.
2.2 Spring Season
Teams and players compete throughout the USAEL Open Spring season. The top 4 Louisiana teams/players in each competition advance to the LASEF Louisiana State Championship. Teams and players may also qualify by competing in LASEF Challonge tournaments that are designated as offering entry into the LASEF Louisiana State Championship. LASEF Regional Champions advance to the LASEF Louisiana State Championship. Stomp in the Swamp Champions advance to the LASEF Louisiana State Championship.
2.3 Minimum Participation Requirement
For any online tournament — whether run through USAEL Open or LASEF Challonge — to qualify as a path to a LASEF championship title (Stomp in the Swamp or the LASEF Louisiana State Championship), the tournament must meet a minimum participation threshold for that specific competition/game: Team-based games (e.g. Rocket League): a minimum of 15 teams. Individual/solo games (e.g. Chess): a minimum of 15 solo players. If a game's tournament does not meet this threshold, no championship will be held for that title for that season, and no qualification will be granted regardless of placement.
