What started as a passion for gaming turned into something much bigger for our students—a glimpse into a future filled with real career possibilities in tech.
Thanks to our friends at Lockstep Technology Group, our team from LASEF /EBRPSS Esports and crew for Esports Tonight had the chance to tour their Baton Rouge facility and learn what truly powers the internet, education systems, and cybersecurity networks in our community. And let us tell you—it was eye-opening.

A Peek Behind the Digital Curtain
When you walk into Lockstep’s Baton Rouge data center, you quickly realize this isn’t just another office building. It’s a high-tech command center that runs 24/7 with no downtime ever. Students explored rooms filled with servers, cables, cooling systems, and security setups that felt like something out of a movie—but it’s all real.
We learned how Lockstep keeps things running during storms, outages, and emergencies, and how their team works behind the scenes to support schools, hospitals, and even government agencies across Louisiana.

Real Talk About Tech Careers
This wasn’t just a show-and-tell. The Lockstep team got honest about what it takes to build a career in IT and cybersecurity—and our students were all ears.
They broke it down:
How much it costs to maintain a data center (spoiler: a lot)
What power and internet look like on an enterprise level
Why understanding networks and servers is key before jumping into cybersecurity
And how help desk experience and empathy can take you far in tech
One of the most important messages? Start with curiosity, stay hands-on, and learn how things work. There’s no shortcut, but the path is absolutely worth it.
Why It Matters
At LASEF, we use esports as a platform—but our mission goes far beyond the game. When students get access to opportunities like this, it shifts their mindset. They begin to see that what they’re learning today—problem-solving, communication, teamwork—can actually lead to a career tomorrow.
For many of our students, this was their first time in a professional tech environment. And by the end of the tour, we saw the spark. Eyes lit up. Questions flew. Futures started to form.
Big Thanks
A huge thank you to Lockstep Technology Group for welcoming us in, answering every question, and showing our students that Louisiana has world-class tech talent and infrastructure right here at home.
